Flooding
Most homeowners’ policies do not cover external flooding. If your home is in a risk zone, you must purchase special insurance (NFIP or private).
Floods can cause severe damage, especially to ground-level structures, electrical systems, and furniture.
Where does it usually occur?
-
Ground floors or basements (water entering from outside)
-
Kitchens, bathrooms, and common areas (standing water)
-
Electrical and HVAC systems (contact with water)
-
Wooden floors, drywall, and cabinets
-
Water accumulation after heavy rains
-
Water intrusion through drains, yards, or stormwater systems
-
Damage from overflowing lakes, rivers, or sewers
-
Saturation of walls, floors, and low ceilings
-
Contamination from sewage in severe cases
